Shearing and Fleece

Our sheep are fall sheared by Jerry Kelleher, multi time winner of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Shearing Competition.

Because ours is a converted dairy barn, the sheep would be too warm if they wore their full coats through the winter.

Each sheep produces five to eight pounds of fleece once a year.

High quality Leicester

white or naturally coloured fleeces

usually go to hand spinners or other craftspeople.

Most of our Down fleeces go to the Wool Cooperative.

Fall shearing helps

to keep the pens

drier and cleaner,

and makes it easier

to find

mama’s milk supply.
