Hand Felted Blankets

Our wool felting project continues,

with our second blanket completed in 2010.

This one is for son Shelby and his wife Lynn.

It features a colourful branch of fall oak leaves

draped over the lower half of the blanket,

with extra sprigs along the top corners,

framing their names.

This blanket was made using coloured felt leaves

and letters for their names,

needle felted onto the blanket.

My goal is to make hand felted blankets from our own wool

for each of our kids for their wedding gifts.

With a lot of assistance from my friend Leslie Samson,

these enormous projects have been taking shape.

Our first completed blanket,  for daughter Denny and husband Ian, features a double winding vine of morning glories

and their names, needle felted onto the blanket.

A close up of the vine heart,

showing the details

of the felted fabric.

The creamy colour of the blanket on the bed is most correct for this blanket.

Wool for Leah and Mike’s blanket is at the mill, and fleeces are being selected for Nathan and Shauna’s.

Kids are getting married faster than I can make blankets!
