Hand Felted Blankets

Blanket #1, for Denny and Ian

In recent years, I have been working on a special wool project. With the help of a good friend, Leslie Samson,

I have been making queen size bedcovers for our children for their wedding gifts. These are hand felted wool

from our own sheep, decorated with a needle felted design. The first one finished is a design of vines, leaves

and flowers .... this is for our daughter Denny and her husband Ian. A second one is nearing completion,

and I have recently selected fleeces for the third.

The lower close up shots show the texture of the wool felt … it is very lightweight and cozy.

Text Box: Text Box: Blanket # 2 is for our son
 Shelby and his wife Lynn.
It is still in progress …
shown are a few pics of the process
of making the large piece of felt
We hope to have this one
completed by Christmas time.

It’s FABRIC!!!!!

Leslie and I worked for several hours on this project, starting with wool laid out measuring 12 ft. by 10 1/2 ft.
We had a dance party on the wet, soapy wool, then rolled and rolled and rolled it every possible direction.  After sufficient agitation, the wool felted together and became a lovely, lightweight fabric.

Next step is designing a pattern.  We have already decided, but it’s under wraps till the kids see it!
